Feu Keats

Feu Keats (2021 – 8 minutes 10)

Feu Keats (2021 – 8 minutes 10)

this text came to me during a stay in Ostend, after having reread William Blake’s Marriage of Heaven and Hell – my strong connection to the England of that time. and it’s as if John Keats had entered the room and convinced me to follow him.

I had also been interested for a long time in songs written by Keith Reid for the group Procol Harum, Gary Brooker put them to music. their themes always seemed to me out of the ordinary, though rather obscure – often maritime. thinking back, I quickly imagined these three pieces but crushed, worn, planed – according to the method used for Mt Geminy / Yannick Franck.

In terms of images, these are shots partly taken while leaving Dover last year with my son, beaches in December and others in January, twilights, dawns, Ostend.

I found myself in the room with John K.

thin, small, as I knew he was

chestnut hair, medium-length, curly. blue, deep, dark eyes

straight nose fairly strong, less so, however, than the one you see on his funeral mask

fine features but above all extremely mobile. rather vindictive but funny and full of irony.

and everything that he evoked, I grasped it

That’s how I embarked with him for Rome

behind us, the cliffs of Dover.

For him, to leave England is to leave Fanny

Fanny Brawne

Joseph Severn, our mutual friend, insisted on the series of erroneous diagnoses made on the spot by Dr. James Clark, he left him hungry, desperate, in agony

But I could not cope with it, so I had cowardly left Rome

He died at the age of 25

Today I have twice as much and I wonder why
